My parents, Hal and Carol Wainwright started Halcar Kennels nearly 40 years ago. So as they say, “I was born into a Dog Family”. I owned my first Wire Fox Terrier at the tender age of twelve. I have been actively breeding and showing dogs ever since. I have titled dogs in Conformation, Obedience, Earth Dog and Canine Good Citizen.
There is not a more eye-catching breed than a nicely groomed Wire Fox Terrier. Wires tend to be one of the most intelligent and intuitive breeds and I believe that makes them “not a breed for everyone or every family as they like to go everywhere that you do, including the bathroom. They do not like to be left behind”. Wires are not the easiest dogs to train as at times they ask “why” but on the other hand, Wire’s do really want to please you. One of the greatest rewards is to teach Wire’s tricks. They are wonderful with children and will play for hours.
I raise a couple of litters a year. I also board and groom in my home. At times I have retired champions to place. I have shown and finished several different titles on dogs, some for others, but mostly on my own. It is a thrill to win a Specialty Sweepstakes which I have done at both Montgomery County and the WFTCCS. As a breeder these are the wins I treasure the most.
I am a member of American Fox Terrier Club of America, Wire Fox Terrier Club of Central States, Motor Cities Fox Terrier Club and the Terrier Club of Michigan. I am honored to be recognized as an American Kennel Club Breeder of Merit.
As a AKC Breeder of Merit, I have a history of several years involvement with AKC events; Earned Conformation, Performance and Companion event titles; I certify that applicable health screens are performed on breeding stock as recommended by the Parent Club; and demonstrate a commitment to ensuring 100% of the puppies produced are AKC registered.
